Since becoming a mom, have you felt like your goals have taken the back burner?

For whatever the reason may be…

You have no time for yourself.

The dreaded mom guilt creeps in if you prioritize anything other than your family.

You are too tired to fit anything else in besides the necessities.

Life is over once you have kids.  FALSE

Moms should not have a life outside of their kids.  FALSE

Moms can’t <insert “rule” here>  FALSE

Something’s gotta give.

The reasons, thoughts, or beliefs are endless.

If any of this sounds familiar, you are in good company.  When you are a mom, your to-do list is endless.  Between taking care of yourself, your family, your work, and your home, how can you fit in anything else?

There is so much going on, and it is just flat out exhausting.  For me, whenever I get a free second, I tend to go for something mindless just to unwind and disconnect.

Add on top of that societies views of what motherhood should look like and how mothers should act.

Well, I’m here to tell you that you should go for your goals even as a mom and ESPECIALLY since your a mom.  YOU get to determine the rules in this game.

4 reason moms should go after their goals

1)  Achieving your goals makes you a better mother

If you are going after a goal that you really want, it tends to light you up.  It brings you excitement,  joy, and all these other feel-good feelings.  Not only is great for you as an individual, but you also get to bring that energy, joy, and excitement into all aspects of your life, including being a mom. This sounds like a win-win to me!

And let’s not forget… Happy parent = Happy kid

Let’s get this out the way… you are not selfish for wanting to do things that do not involve your kids or family.  If you don’t want to do anything besides hanging with your kids, there is nothing wrong with that either.  All I’m saying is you should live YOUR way on your terms and not on anyone else.

2)  Going after your goals sets a great example

When you go after your goals and dreams, your kids get to watch how you do things and learn.  There are some great characteristics that your kids can pick up by seeing you go after your goals and dreams, such as and not limited to determination, focus, perseverance, planning, creativity.

3)  Show them how YOU define motherhood

If you are doing you and going after your goals and dreams, your kids learn that parenthood isn’t the end of the world.  Everything doesn’t need to stop once you have kids.  Do you ever want your kids to feel like they have to give up their goals and dreams for anything? No, probably not.  We can lead by example and break any stigmas. Show your kids that being a mom is only one facet of who you are.  It is a part of who you are not all-encompassing.

4)  Accomplishing your goals let you live a life of no regrets

One thing that I have learned since I have become a parent is that time goes by extremely quickly.  It is too easy to put things off until next week, next month, next year, you have more energy, the kids are in school, etc.

It bothers me more than anything realizing a whole year went by, and I am not any closer to a goal that I really want to achieve.

Go for your goals and dreams now!  Even if you do a little, little bit each day, you are getting that much closer to your goal.

I hope you enjoyed this little pep talk and it gets you started on going for your goals!  In the comments below, I’d love to hear your reasons for going after your goals & dreams!
